Consider the Lilies..: November 2016

Hospitals, yarn, and toilet brushes..

So this happened..
Let me tell you..  If seeing your kid like this doesn't scare the hell out of you, you have no soul.
Sky went to work Monday afternoon at 1:45.
She sent me a text at 5:30 saying that she was on her way home because she felt nauseous.  She said that she was inside a pipe repairing it and wasn't wearing a mask.
By 6:00 she had lost all her color, had a raging headache, was shaking uncontrollably, almost crying because her neck and back hurt so much, and couldn't stop vomiting.
Clay took her to the emergency room where they did chest x-rays and blood tests.
Carbon monoxide poising..  By the time they put her on oxygen she was fading in and out of consciousness..
Clay sent me the picture along with an update and I freaked.  I felt sick..  It was horrible..
Luckily, my friend T's mother is a respiratory therapist and through texts between Clay, myself, T and T's mother, she was able to ask questions and give information that was incredibly helpful and reduced the level of panic that kept creeping up on me.
Since Sky is an adult now, the doctors weren't really talking to Clay and were being stingy when it came to telling him what was happening.
She was on oxygen for 4 hours and then they were able to come home.
She stayed on the couch yesterday nursing a headache and sore muscles, but is doing much better and is going back to work today.

The night before Sky's latest visit to the emergency room, our friend Jake came over for dinner and and we played cards and a couple boardgames..
Keisel is learning how to play Gin.

I started another blanket..
This one is for my niece Katelyn.
It looks green but it's actually teal.

And I'm making washcloths for Elaine..
I'm trying to teach myself how to make different borders so I figured that washcloths would be the easiest way to do that.
Plus Elaine always wants washcloths so it's a win/win :)

Clay started attending the men's bible study group at our church..
It's every Tuesday at 6:30 in the morning..
It's a really good study group lead by the senior pastor and you don't have to attend OBC to go; so if you live in Omaha and like getting up really early on Tuesday mornings, you're welcome to join.
Since Clay was with Sky at the hospital until midnight, I really didn't expect him to get up and go so early the next morning but he was determined..
They are studying the Westminster Confession of Faith.
Tuesday's lesson was on freewill.  I read Clay's notes..
It was really good!
I'm super glad that he is able to attend this bible study, but I have to admit that I'm a little jealous too.
OK, I'm a lot jealous..
Women's bible studies are so dumb.
They aren't even real bible studies; more like social/support groups who get together over brunch, with a few bible verses thrown in.
But the men's group?  Waaaaayyy different..
There is a table with some black coffee and some paper cups.
That's it..
No fruit trays, muffins, breakfast casseroles, or fancy coffee creamer.   Just plain old black coffee.
Then they all sit down and discuss the lesson.
No one talks about their problems, relationship issues, jobs, their wife, or their kids.
No one cries, no one hugs each other, and no one talks about their personal struggles..
They learn theology.
I'm starting to realize that It doesn't matter what church it is; all women's bible studies are the same.  Because that's how they like it.
Except me.  I hate it..
A lot.
I'm definitely in the minority on this one.
So I'll just keep learning from the pastor on Sunday's and on my own at home.  Fortunately there are lots of resources nowadays :)
Plus Clay can teach me whatever he learns from the men's group and that's pretty cool too.

Oh, my latest cleaning hack:
I use this thing to scrub the toilet..
But I always feel like I'm wasting the little scrubby thing because there's so much soap in them and you're supposed to throw them away after using them once.
And who would want to save it to use again?
So I used it to clean the tub and the shower walls..
Before you say "ew", I used it on the tub before I used it in the toilet.
Sky is usually pretty dirty when she comes home from work so the tub and shower walls get really dirty too..  I scrub them every day.  It's a pain.
Literally..  The stretching and bending to get all of it does a number on my back after a while.
But with the wand, I don't really have to do either.  Plus it's a scrubby, so it gets all the dirt off.
And there is enough soap left over to scrub the toilet..
So there you go :)

I just remembered another one.
I made reusable cleaning wipes.
I got all of my old, stained washcloths and put them in a gallon size Ziploc bag.  Then I mixed together peroxide, alcohol, and vinegar and poured it in the bag and put the bag under the sink..
Now every morning I just grab one and wipe down the bathroom..  Takes less than a minute..

Have a happy Wednesday!

Nothing much..

I finished Kylee's blanket last night..

Keisel really liked it..
Seriously, have you ever seen a cuter puppy?

Now all I gotta do is find a box and actually mail it (I'm terrible about shipping stuff)..

I finished my Super Scarf last night too..
What is a super scarf you ask?
Well 4 years ago Lenny Kravitz was photographed wearing this gigantic scarf..
And since then it's been super popular in the crochet world..
Yeah, I said crochet world..  Stop judging me..  :)
Anyway, I finally made one, although it's not as big..
Clay was not thrilled to be modeling it for me this morning..
It's 15 inches wide and 12 feet long..
I'm not sure how well you can see the gray fringe on the ends, but it's there..

So what else?  Nothing much going on..  People in the neighborhood are putting up Christmas stuff (groan) and yesterday when I went to unlock the door to the church so a friend could get in I saw that they had already decorated for Christmas in there too (double groan)..

The high for the day is supposed to be 58 so after Clay mows the lawn for the last time until Spring, we are gonna go to the parks and leave the scarves I've made and see if we can hand out some backpacks full of stuff.
A friend of mine donated a bunch of coats last week so we have those to give out too..

Well, I've run out of stuff to blog about..
Happy Saturday!

Happy Thanksgiving, I guess...

We don't do Thanksgiving..  To tell you the truth, we don't really do holidays..  Not for any particular reason, we just don't..  Maybe it's because Clay is rarely home on a holiday so it's easier for us to just treat it like an ordinary day..  Except Christmas and Easter; we have a reason for not celebrating those..  We give each other presents sometime during the week before Christmas, because we like presents, but that's about it..
I think holidays are dumb.
I know, I'm such a buzz-kill..
This Thanksgiving is a good one though..  Not because it's Thanksgiving, it's just another Thursday to me, but Clay will be home today so yay!

I have so much housework to do before then!  I've been slacking off since Sky got the puppy..  I can't take my eyes off of him while she's at work or he'll eat the house or pee everywhere..  So mostly I've been sitting on the couch crocheting..
I've managed to loose 16 pounds though!  Not exactly sure how, but I'm not complaining :)
I finished Kylee's blanket..  Sort of..  I ran out of yarn halfway though the border so I'm waiting for Clay to get home so he can go to all the Walmarts in search of more..  The one closest to my house ran out..

I made 5 more scarves to take to the park and leave for the homeless too..
I think Clay and I will go hand out backpacks full of stuff tomorrow and hopefully some blankets too..

I've been doing a Scripture writing challenge this month..  Did I blog about this already?
Ami shared it with me on FB..  I'm really enjoying it..  It's from a blog called Sweet Blessings and she does a new one every month..   This month's is 'thankfulness'..

I'm enjoying it so much that I decided to do last month's too..

I'm sort of excited about next month's (yeah, nerd.  I know.)

I'm using the journal that Elaine made me to write the verses

Have I mentioned how much I love these journals?
I've filled up 3 so far. :)

I made a daily bible reading plan too (I really do think I blogged about this a while ago)..  It's chronological and took me forever to put it all together- it's 7 pages! #OverAchiever
I'll have to think of another plan before July :)

Oh! Look at this!
Isn't that the coolest doodle you've ever seen?  Elaine made it (duh)..  I'm gonna frame it as soon as Clay gets home and tells me where I put the frame..

Sky has the next 4 days off work..  I can hear her in the kitchen doing the dishes (because she's awesome) so I should probably go help..

Have a great day!

Crochet & Cabinda..

So I saw this on FB yesterday and thought, what a great idea!
Elaine told me about a park where a lot of homeless hang out, that's pretty safe in the daytime..  I'm going to go there and hand out some bags and I thought "why not leaves some scarves in the park too?
I have a few donated to me by a friend and a bunch of left over yarn from other projects so I can make scarves too..  I finished one and and a half of one yesterday..
I won't get many done this year but I will have a head start on next year..
I'm still working on Kylee's blanket..  I am close to finishing but I ran out of the yarn I was using..  Turns out, no one in Omaha has it anymore.  So I went on the website of the company that sells it and they were out of stock..  Just my luck..  I finally found it on Amazon, but not on prime so I have to wait a couple of weeks for it..
After that, I won't have any more nieces to make blankets for..  Well, Suzanne has two girls, and I would love to make blankets for them too but Suz is so much better at crocheting than am so they probably already have super fabulous blankets..
So Suz, if they don't; let me know their favorite colors :)

Clay is flying to the island of Cabinda today..  He may be there already..
I think they are going to transfer him to run the yard there..  It's smaller than the one in Luanda, but 2/3 of Angola's oil comes out of Cabinda and since they have laid off so many people, they need someone who can run more than one department..
I'm not sure who is running the yard in Luanda now though..  The guy who is in charge is on vacation so Clay has been running the yard while he's been gone..  I'm guessing Clay will probably be running Luanda from Cabinda..
I guess that's all I have to blog about :)
