Consider the Lilies..: Why are we fighting??

Why are we fighting??

In the Christian church there is a lot of talk about spiritual warfare..  We are always talking about fighting the enemy..  We talk about how the enemy is attacking us, and how we need to stand up and do battle with Satan..

We know that the enemy is powerful..  It's like I always say, Lucifer was the smartest and the strongest of all God's angels, and he didn't get weak or stupid on the way down..  Satan is powerful, he is smart, and he is fearsome..  He comes to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10)..  He is a formidable opponent and can do terrible things..
When something bad happens in our lives, right away we say "this is an attack of the enemy, we need to fight back!"..  But do we really?  As children of God with the Holy Spirit alive in us, what sort of fighting do we really need to do?

When God looks at us who are saved, those who have accepted Jesus in our hearts, who repent of our sins, and have surrendered to Him fully, He see's Jesus..  When God looks at us, he is looking at Jesus, his precious and beloved Son, in whom He is well pleased (Matthew 3:17)..
Who do you think Satan sees when he looks at us?  Where do you think the hatred for us comes from?  He looks at us and sees Jesus.

Satan knows the power of Jesus, he knows that he is no match for the Son of God.  So aware of it that he doesn't even try to fight Him.  He flees.  He runs away because he has fought Him before and lost...  He knows what is ahead for him (don't forget, he knows the Bible better than we do)..  He knows that he has lost and there will come a day when he will leave this earth and spend his eternity in Hell..  So naturally he will try to take as many of us as he can with him.  To those who are saved by the blood of Christ, he knows that he really has no power..
I believe that other than Jesus himself, no one can comprehend the power of God better than Satan..
So, even though he knows that he can't do us any real lasting harm (unless we let him) he will try his hardest to get to us any way he can, as often as he can..  The problem here is that we are letting him get the better of us..  We are giving him the power to harm us, we are giving him credit that he simply does not deserve..  He controls us, and sometimes even defeats us through fear, and sadly ignorance..  Our ignorance of scripture and the true everlasting power of the cross.

Satan knows that the power and authority of Jesus lives in us..  He knows that we have authority over him because Jesus gave us that authority when He gave us His name..  But do we know that?  Sure we read it in the Bible, we hear it during sermons in church, but do we really understand it?  Do we stand on it?  Do we believe it with all of our hearts?

I'm not 100% sure that we do..  If we did, we would understand that the battle has already been won..  Jesus already defeated him.  And because we have Jesus alive in us, we are already victorious!

But Satan knows us pretty well too..  He knows when we are afraid of him, he knows whether or not we truly will wield the authority of Christ over him..  As long as we do not realize the magnitude of the power that we have in Christ, Satan is free to attack..  As long as we continue to think that this fight against him is our fight, Satan has power over us..

For example: Lets say that you have a small child who is being bullied at school.  This bully is bigger, stronger, and meaner than your child..  Naturally your child is going to be afraid whenever he is confronted by this bully..  But what would happen if one day this bully was threatening him and you stepped in front of your child..  Sure that bully is mean and scary to your child, but not to you.  You are bigger and stronger.. Even more, you are protecting your child..  Now your child knows that you are protecting him and that he is no longer in danger..  He has faith in you, and he realizes that this bully is just that.  A bully who will only pick on someone weaker and smaller than him..  Once this bully knows that you will stand in front of your child, he will flee..
Just like Satan will when he realizes that you realize that Jesus stands in front of you.  .

But you have to believe it!
You have to know that even though he looks like this to you:

To Jesus he looks like this:

Don't give the enemy more credit and power than he already has over your life..  And whatever you have given him, take it back..  Resist the devil and he will flee (James 4:7)..
Remember who you are and who Christ is and who you are in Christ..
To those who are truly covered in the blood of Jesus, the enemy has no power..
Any power he has over you is power that you yourself have given him.  We don't really have to fight, Jesus does that for us.  We simply need to resist the devil, keep our eyes on God, guard our hearts, our minds, and our tongues..  That's it..
Why fight a battle when Jesus has already won the war?

  1. Yes and Amen! I can tell you from experience that, when God gives you revelation and you believe it, the devil has no power over you! He is exposed and his tricks no longer work.

Who's ya daddy? God! He protects His children and has given us authority through the blood of His Son, Jesus Christ.

  2. Another awesome post, Ren. As long as we stay focused on Jesus and His word, Satan loses all of his power. Spiritual warfare is fought by Jesus. The Bible says to "put on the full armor of God", but this isn't physical armor it's spiritual armor: "Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." Ephesians 6:14-17
